All members of the school community were invited to come and enjoy this lovely evening of music from Ralph Allen students and staff.
Acting Head of Music Elonor Tivey had been in post for just 3 weeks when she directed the annual Winter Concert at the school, at 8pm on Tues 1 Dec 2009.
‘It’s a wonderful opportunity to work with such dedicated students, and having just taken on this role it is a great chance to get to know everyone better and see the wide range of talented musicians at the school.’
Karen Randall, Head of Music, has just started her maternity leave, but Elonor was ably assisted by Lisa Patten, Teacher of Music and Adam Biggs – well known local piano teacher, and founder of Adam’s Apple acoustic Jazz trio (Adam Biggs Piano, Ben Groenevelt Double Bass, Rob Brian Drums) - providing a piano accompaniment.
Music on the night was provided by the choir, chamber choir, windband, and individuals playing the piano, jazz piano improvisations, the saxophone, E flat horn and tenor sax. A novelty was Elonor Tivey playing her harp, accompanying the choir.
The musical works included the chamber choir singing ‘Chattanooga choo choo’ , the windband playing ‘Harry’s wondrous world’ - John Williams (from Harry Potter Films), the Choir singing ‘You are not Alone’ by R.Kelly, ‘Melody in search of a musical’ - Graham Lyons tenor sax solo, a sax solo for ‘Gipsy songs’ by Joszef Balogh, a vocal solo of ‘On my Own’ by Schonberg from Les Miserables, and vocal solo ‘Fallin’ by Alicia Keys.
Refreshments were provided by the Ralph Allen Catering team after the event.
