What is it?
Our school Readathon is at one level a chance for our whole school community, pupils, teachers and support staff to take an hour out of our very hectic lives and slow down by creating a quiet space in school for us all to read for pleasure. Too often we have no time for reflection in the hurly burly of ever increasing pressures both in and out of school, so we are taking the time to re-charge and remind ourselves of the very important functions that reading can hold for us. It can be an escape, an education, an opportunity to re-charge or all of these things… So we will.
On Monday 30th from 2.20 to 3.20pm (the last period of the day).
Pupils will be encouraged to bring in books/magazines or comics from home, borrow from the library and swap with their friends in preparation for the event. On the day there will be lots of reading based activities and then just the peace of a whole school reading …….Brilliant!
At another level it is also a key fundraiser for CLIC Sargent and The Roald Dahl Foundation and this is equally important to us as a school community, because we have pupils in school undergoing treatment for cancer and other serious illnesses and we want to show our support for these pupils and their families. Cancer is an illness that will affect 1 in 3 of us in our lives and there is probably not one of us that hasn’t been touched by cancer in some way. We hope that you can support your child and give generously to raise money for cancer. Pupils in Years 7 and 8 will be encouraged to take part in a sponsored Readathon - if you are a parent/carer of pupils in this age group please encourage them to read as many books as possible and assist them with getting sponsorship.
