Accessibility

What is accessibility?

Here at Ralph Allen we aim to make our website accessible to all potential users. Whilst developing the website we have used several techniques to ensure this is the case. A short description of these techniques are given below. If you have any suggestions that might improve the accessibility of our website then please email webmaster@ralphallen.bathnes.org.uk.

Access Keys

We have employed the use of 'access keys' to allow those with limited mobility, or anyone who has difficulty controlling a mouse to browse our navigation system with ease. Much like 'hot keys' in many operating systems, the use of 'access keys' allows you to type a key combination to access one of our menu items. Windows users can use the access key feature by keying ALT+Accesskey. Apple Macintosh users will use CTRL+Accesskey. You will notice that the relevant access keys are underlined on the navigation menu bar above. Please see the list below for details:

Note: Many internet browsers still do not support this particular feature. It is recommended that you use Microsoft Internet Explorer if you wish to take full advantage of Access Keys.

Alt Tags

All of our content images have an accompanying Alt tag. This provides a text alternative for an image incase the image does not load or the user browsing the website is using a screen reader or text-only browser.

W3C Validation

The W3C authors a set of technical guidelines to ensure that documents presented over the internet are consistent. In the development of this website we have followed these guidelines and validated the pages using the W3C Validator. This means our website is cross browser compatible and gives a wider audiance better access to the information contained within.
