Welcome
Ralph Allen School is an 11-18 Co-educational Non-Denominational Comprehensive School, situated on the skyline of world heritage city Bath. We serve the community of Bath and villages to the South of the City. The school is surrounded by green sites managed by English Nature and the National Trust. Its local village is Combe Down.
We have approximately 1100 pupils on roll with over 200 in our very successful Sixth Form. In 2004, Ralph Allen was designated as a 'Specialist Science College', bringing extra staffing, resources and facilities to the school. Since then the school has developed as a centre of excellence for science teaching, running annual conferences at Bath University on sustainability for young people in the community of Bath and North East Somerset in partnership with Resource Futures and developing a wide range of partnerships to enhance the teaching of science.
The school is designated disabled access school for the Bath area and has undergone successive modifications to include young people with special needs and disabilities into the whole life of the school.
Following our 'Good with outstanding features' OFSTED grade in 2007, we were visited twice again by Ofsted who judged the Teaching of English to be 'Outstanding' and the quality of the School's Inclusion and Equalities provision to be 'Outstanding'.
In 2009 the School became a Foundation School with a Trust, called 'The Ralph Allen Innovation Trust'. With partners including the University of Bath, local schools, business and Health service providers we aim to further the excellent work done by the school through working with partners to improve outcomes for young people and the community.
Boosted by Lottery funding we run a wide range of extended services to young people and the community, and this year we are running a Wednesday Windows project piloting a menu of new activities for young people on a Wednesday afternoon. Ralph Allen School has achieved the 'Sportsmark Gold Award' for excellence in Physical Education and Sport and also 'Artsmark Silver' and we believe strongly in the role of the Arts in our curriculum.
Relationships with our parents are good and we have a strong parent-teacher association, The Ralph Allen School Association. The local community regards the school highly and gives us considerable support. In turn, the school provides venues and facilities for many community activities and events.
Our exam results this year are on target for GCSE and outstanding at 'A' Level. This year (2009), our students achieved 70% five A*-C (60% with English and Maths) at GCSE , and we had 98% pass rate at A2 with 64% of grades at A/B, 35% of which were A grades.
As Head of the school I am proud of what the Ralph Allen School community has achieved. It has been our aim to 'strive for excellence' in an inclusive community.
Our strategic goal is 'to be lead education innovators in Bath'.
Libby Lee
Headteacher
